Conference 2005

On 27-29 May 2005, the University of Mississippi Department of History sponsored the Conference on the Civil War:  Remembering America’s Civil War.  A diverse group of panelists, including academic historians, public historians, and archivists, addressed American commemoration of the Civil War in both the North and South

Renowned lecturer and Civil War authority Gabor Boritt, now retired Director of the Civil War Institute and Fluhrer Professor of Civil War Studies at Gettysburg College, delivered the keynote address.  Boritt has made a number of TV documentary appearances and authored or co-authored sixteen books on Lincoln and the Civil War, including The Gettysburg Nobody Knows.  In his keynote address, Boritt addressed the evolution of American memory of Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address.”
